Incoloy

Incoloy is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy, has less than 50% nickel content. Incoloy, with its higher ferrous content and correspondingly lower cost, make it the ideal material in elevated temperature, but less critical, applications. A further feature is its relative ease of fabrication, employing the same machines and processes used for stainless steel. This alloy also comes in a variety of grades, whose emphasis is more on resistance to aggressive forms of corrosion, particularly in aqueous environments. Whereas a basic form of Incoloy will find widespread general use, further alloying with enhancing elements provides added resistance to chemical and environmental corrosion, as well as physical deterioration, such as surface pitting and cracking. Excellent resistance to seawater, brine, sour gas and high chloride environments make it a popular choice in the oil and gas industries. The most specialized Incoloy alloys, however, are widely used in the harshest chemical environments of all, involving among others, acids, wet scrubbing, nuclear fuel and the reactive atmospheres of furnaces.

Incoloy Alloy 20

UNS Number N08020

Incoloy Alloy 20 is a nickel-iron-chromium austenitic alloy that was developed for maximum resistance to acid attack, specifically sulfuric acid. This superalloy has excellent resistance to general corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion in chemicals containing chlorides and sulfuric, phosphoric, and nitric acids. It also contains niobium for stabilization against sensitization and resultant intergranular corrosion. Carpenter 20 combines excellent corrosion resistance with elevated mechanical properties and relatively easy fabrication. Although originally designed for use in sulfuric acid related industries, Alloy 20 is now a popular choice for a wide variety of industries including the chemical, food, pharmaceutical, and plastics industries. In addition, this superalloy is used in heat exchangers, mixing tanks, metal cleaning and pickling equipment, and piping.

Incoloy A-286

UNS Number S66286

Incoloy Alloy A-286 (sometimes referred to as A286 stainless steel) is a nickel and iron-based, austenitic superalloy that is useful for applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance up to 1300˚F (704˚C), and for lower stress applications at higher temperatures. The mechanical properties of this alloy are developed by suitable solution annealing and precipitation hardening treatments. This alloy has excellent high temperature oxidation resistance and is designed to maximize creep and stress rupture properties, with some reduction in strength. A-286 material can attain high strength levels when aged after cold work, and has wide applications in high temperature fasteners and springs.

Incoloy 800/800H/800HT

UNS Number N08800/N08810/N08811

Incoloy 800, 800H, and 800HT are nickel-iron-chromium alloys with good strength and excellent resistance to oxidation and carburization in high-temperature exposure. These nickel steel alloys are identical except for the higher level of carbon in alloy 800H, and the addition of up to 1.20 percent aluminum and titanium in alloy 800HT. Incoloy 800 was the first of these alloys and it was slightly modified into Incoloy 800H. This modification was to control carbon (.05-.10%) and grain size to optimize stress rupture properties. Incoloy 800HT has further modifications to the combined titanium and aluminum levels (.85-1.20%) to ensure optimum high temperature properties. The nickel alloy is dual certified (800H/HT) and combines the properties of both forms. Incoloy 800H/HT alloy was intended for high temperature structural applications. The nickel content makes the alloys highly resistant to both chloride stress-corrosion cracking and to embrittlement from precipitation of sigma phase. The general corrosion resistance is excellent. In the solution annealed condition, alloys 800H and 800HT have superior creep and stress rupture properties.

Incoloy 925

UNS Number N09925

Incoloy alloy 925 is an age hardenable nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of molybdenum, copper, titanium and aluminum. The nickel content is sufficient for protection against chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking. The nickel, in conjunction with the molybdenum and copper, also gives outstanding resistance to reducing chemicals. The molybdenum aids resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The alloy’s chromium content provides resistance to oxidizing environments. The titanium and aluminum additions cause a strengthening reaction during heat treatment.
